Pat, generally nurseries will send you a catalog for about 2 years if you
don't order anything and then they take you off their mailing list.
Printing and mailing catalogs is very costly for them, so they can't keep
sending if you don't order unless you anti up the fee for it over again.
Most catalogs cost a couple of dollars initially - some are a good deal
more - and that buys you a couple of years. The mass mailers - like the
dreaded Michigan Bulb - as well as Wayside, Parks (who are part of
Wayside), Burpee and quite a few others will send catalogs forever once
they get you on their mailing list, whether you ever order or not. They
make up the cost of the catalogs in volume (and some, like Wayside, in
outrageously high prices), so can keep this up. Smaller nurseries can't do
this and stay in business.
If you order, you will be kept on the mailing list for at least another two
years or so. Many nurseries say in their catalogs what their policy about
this is.
