Hello Gene,
I have been growing Astrantia major for some years now and the only problem
I have had is the self-seeding. The resultant plants are lacking in 'bulk'
and tend to look weedy. (I did make a note recently to transplant the
seedlings to a group next year to try and form an established clump.) The
flowering period for me is June/July and the seedheads are attractive too.
The flowers last longer where they are in dappled shade.
I did buy a red one (sorry, name escapes me) a couple of years back but,
unfortunately, it died on me :(.
