Dear Glen in Vermont -- along with you and millions of others, I have
also felt how minute some of our concerns now appear against the
background of September 11 and its aftermath. Gardening obsessions,
yes, but also all the other trivia of daily life - even the necessary
trivia (what to have for dinner, how to get the stain off the carpet,
etc.) But the one thing I have felt while walking through the gardens
now, as they fade into winter, is how gardens and plants reaffirm our
faith in life, its endless cycle of death and rebirth. So we can find
comfort and hope in knowing that even as plants give up their glory of
this season, they will emerge again into new life and beauty and
strength next Spring. I've been holding onto that thought.
Thanks for sharing your feelings.
