I just had to mention a new (to me, anyway) one I discovered this year. An elderly neighbor dropped off some seeds he called simply *stalk flowers*. I felt adventurous and planted a few pots. After much research, I discovered they were balsam impatiens - impatiens that love the sun! Seems they were popular in Victorian times and can still be found. Visitors to my garden made comments such as *My grandmother used to grow those* and things like that. They come in a wide range of colors except true blue and green. Very nice TALL addition to pots (3 feet high in some cases) - very tender, however, in zone 5.
