Bamboo Recommendation

Help me make a Bamboo Recommendation. I remember my Dad having bamboo get out of hand and hating it but now I am considering it.
We need a very dense tall screen for privacy and a contractor suggested Bamboo. He said he would pour a cement footing in the ground to keep the bamboo in bounds and that it wouldn't travel. Is this possible? If so how deep does the cement footing need to be? I need a variety that gets very dense and tall quickly. I imagine someone here has had experience with this. We could build a solid stucco wall but that would cost a great deal and I'm thinking this might be a good alternative.

I keep reading this list and I have had some great help. I keep checking and perhaps someone will ask a question I know the answer to.
