This is Nancy from Maryville Tennessee. I live at the foothills of the
Chilhowie Mountains which are situated between me and the Smoky Mountains.
I've been on this listing for over two year but have not contributed very
often. I really do enjoy all the info I read.
Yes, we are still warmer but nothing like back when we had the 90s everyday
and no rain. I welcome the cooler weather as many others do. Our leaves
have just started changing. Even our dogwood leaves, which have usually
turned by mid-September, are just now burgundy color.
Our flower show was held at our local mall, Foothills Mall, with five garden
clubs participating. Our theme was "O" and naturally orange was our
prominent color. Needless to say, many pumpkins were used. Members made
various types of scarecrows that were placed around to keep watch over our
tables during the off hours at the mall. Haha...
I mostly grow potted plants on my screened porch, which faces South west. I
did lots of watering this summer as most people all over did. I have three
acres that around 11/2 are left wild for the birds. I have a flower bed at
the base of my screened porch that has a beautiful Carolina Jasmine that
climbs upon the screened area, there are three different types of Sedum (the
Autumn Joy types), a Black Knight Buddleia, peruskia atriplicfolia (Russian
Sage), an orange Butterfly Weed, and all this has the spreading type of
Lantana all in front of it. There are various other inconspicuous plants
that I do not know the names of but I enjoy them. I have a few Hostas,
Heuchera, day lilies, wildflowers in the Spring, Hellebors , Gingers and
other things just to mention a few. I have lots of native trees and bushes
that supply food for the birds. I'm getting into a few of the ornamental
grasses. I love gardening but because of a developed muscle problem with my
back I am limited.
My ribbons were received for:
1: j. Sambac (Arabian Jasmine) - Blue (it was blooming too)
2: perovskia artiplicfolia ( Russian Sage) - Blue
3: Ilex - Blue ( this was also blooming and had berries)
4: Buddleia, Black Knight - Blue
5: Hibiscus - Red (No name on this plant, which I purchased at Home Depot
6: Buddleia, White Perfusion - Red
I only took six items to the show and won ribbons on all my things. I was
very surprised and happy.
I hope I have not bored all of you with this but if you don't want to hear
me rattle, don't ask me. Haha...

Since you got this far, Nancy, you may as well tell us your location and
what flowers won the ribbons. You certainly are warmer than we are and
congratulations.
