RE: clematis durandii


That's a perfect use for this plant, unless you are chosing too small of a barbary.  I grow mine through a rose.  They are very well behaved, don't get too large (4' or so), are slow growers for me but a beautiful, satiny purple and repeats well.

Catalog photos of this plant always make me drool, but I don't really
understand its growth habit and how best to use it.  Is it some kind of very
floppy plant rather than an actual vine?  Could it be grown to flop over a
yellow leafed barberry?  Any advice would be appreciated.  Merri in warm
