I saw Nancy Goodwin several times on (?) the Victory Garden and also Erica
Glasener's Gardener's Diary. Seemed nice and thought I might like to go
their one day. The Hosta convention was in Raleigh last year and Montose was
on the list of place we were to visit. Hallelujah! A place without hosta and
a garden I wanted to visit.
The bus pulled up, we departed and Nancy greeted us on the front porch never
to be seen again. This was a paid tour. I'm not sure what I expected except
a garden I'd seen on TV and how it transposed into reality and a "Great
Garden" . That was the expectations. It was late June and although the gravel
paths were there, so were alot of weedy re -seedeed plants. I don't
remember..Perilla frutescens? Wild violets. Anyhow, the perennials looked
qite unkempt, wild & wooly and just nothing special. Perhaps I didn't
understand the style; perhaps Nancy is slowing down and not able to keep up
the property. Disappointed as I didn't learne anything ...except meaybe "one
will have certain unmet expectations.
