its not likely that the oaks made the soil acid, but that the soil was 
already acid (if that was the problem) Soils develop acid conditions often when 
exposed to a lot of water. Oaks produce a lot of chemicals and some of those can 
effect the growth of other plants if there is a thick layer of half decayed 
leaves.
