Has anyone ever taken stem cuttings from the variegated Arundo donax? The frost will soon hit the top growth, but I noticed that many of the stem nodes have small sprouts growing from them. Lacking any information to the contrary, I'm going to cut the stem at the inter-nodes and place each node with sprout into some sand with a bit of organic matter and keep moist.
I am going to leave the parent plant out this winter, planted close to the foundation on the south side of my glasshouse and covered with plenty of mulch. I've seen this plant growing in the open in NW Illinois, so it should be borderline hardy.
I am leaving on vacation to Thailand and India on Sunday (both plant-lovers Nirvana) and will be on e-mail hold for about 3 weeks, but I can catch up in the archives.
