I use the cheapie tomato cages and cut them to size-they are mostly invisible once the plant grows up, and protect it from being run over or sat upon, even by my "full-figured" Samoyed, Jasmo. An added benefit is they also mark the position of my plants in Spring (She eats plant tags so they are of no use). A second idea that worked fairly well was to determine Jasmo's favorite paths and incorporate them into my garden design. She mostly sticks to the trails unless she is chasing a critter.
