Hosta

My wife (who is not enamored with the Hosta in the front yard) has told me
that a “friend” said I should cut the Hosta back (to the ground??) in the
Fall to prevent mold and fungus. I never bothered to cut back the two Hosta I
had at my old house and they seemed to do just fine. Can anybody confirm that
this is needed? Does Hosta require any special care? I’m in zone 7, MD the
Hosta is quite large (Love Pat, Wide Brim, etc).
