Plumbago auriculata is a tender perennial here in Zone 7...it grows rampant
along the freeway in California...it has the loveliest clear blue flowers...I
keep one in a container, bring it in for the winter, make some cuttings, and
keep my fingers crossed...so far, I've had it 2 summers. As far as I know,
it's common name is Not "Jade Vine".

Is it possible that the vine was a plumbago? Didn't see Martha's article
or whatever, so I'm not very well informed. However, I do know that there
is a plumbago that is a vine-like grower. It is not hardy in my zone, zone
6. Let me know if you get other info. Good luck!
