Cheryl,
Do you mean Abelmoschus?
Parks sold seeds of an annual under that name. I think it was Abelmoschus
moschatus, or silk flower. It was a "bushy plant about 1 1/2 feet tall and
wide, with deep green, deeply cut leaves. Five petaled, 3-4 1/2 inch flowers,
cherry red or pink with white centers, resemble tropical hibiscus." <from
Sunset Western Garden Book> "Likes good garden soil, heat, and full sun but will
bloom in shade." It sounds like a good plant for LA. : )
Wyman's has:
A. esculentus okra
A. manihot Sunset Hibiscus (to 9', annual or perennial)
A. moschatus (annual or biennial, muskmallow, native to India, seeds have a
musky odor)
