 Do you mean Abelmoschus?

Parks sold seeds of an annual under that name. I think it was Abelmoschus
moschatus, or silk flower. It was a "bushy plant about 1 1/2 feet tall and
wide, with deep green, deeply cut leaves. Five petaled, 3-4 1/2 inch
flowers,
cherry red or pink with white centers, resemble tropical hibiscus." <from
Sunset Western Garden Book> "Likes good garden soil, heat, and full sun but
will
bloom in shade." It sounds like a good plant for LA. : )

It probably is spelled Abelmoschus. Thanks for the information. Someone was
kind enough to give me the common name of Musk Mallow. I did see that on the
tag of the plant. It does resemble a small hibiscus. Very pretty plant.
