Commenting on Bill Lee's previous postings on Daffodils:
I have been following your comments with some interest, I live in a Zone
9bish climate (Los Gatos CA) and can only succeed with a few varieties ie.
Tazzeta, true Jonquils, Thalia and the like. The only Large cup Daff I have
heard will do well here is Ice Follies. I think there is a commercial grower
near Watsonville Calif. (about an hour from me) but I have not found them - have
you heard of any in that area? I'd like to get more information on varieties and
cultural strategies for my area. I have now heard from 2 sources (this list and
an article in Fine Gardening) that SHALLOW planting is recommended for Hot areas
, I have been planting DEEPER in the belief that the bulbs will stay cooler and
be LESS susceptible to rot, oh well.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

<< I have seen Ice Follies, Salome, and Accent for sale - what catalogues do
you recommend for a good daff selection - I have used McClure and Zimmerman
and Van ?? don't have catalogue hand and early on Brecks >>
Daffodil Mart has a good catalog which includes many other bulbs too, Rt. 3,
Box 794, Gloucester, VA 23061. The owners, Brent and Becky Heath have also
written Daffodils for American Gardens which is still in print and any
bookstore can get it for you. It also has lots of photos of very good
daffodils. I know you'll enjoy your ADS membership.
If you want to acquire some of the better and more modern cultivars I can
give you an address list for them too. Of course it is pretty late to order
for this year and I'm not sure any of the dealers could still fill an order.
