I would also like to ask a related question. I burn a high quality
anthracite coal. I have been bagging the ashes and putting them out with the
trash, but wonder if they would be ok to use as a soil conditioner, to help
loosen my clay soil when double-digging a bed. I've heard anecdotally that
coal ash may contain heavy metals, but believe that is more true of
bituminous than the hard stuff I burn. I would be using it only in
ornamental beds, not where edibles are grown. Opinion? Facts?
