If it weren't for Eucerin creme, corn huskers lotion, bag balm, and a pumice
stone... I don't know what I'd do. With my line of work, and constant
involvement with the user community, I feel I have to keep my hands
relatively presentable... <smirk>
I don't have long nails, they're just to the tips of my fingers, and
rounded. I keep a bar of ivory soap handy in the kitchen, and it's wrapped
in a damp sponge cloth, so the soap stays "soft", not mushy. Before I
garden, I rake my nails across the soap so that the underside of them are
filled with the soap. This makes my cleanup after gardening a SNAP when I
use a nail brush.
If I wear gloves, I slather on the Eucerin creme, and then put my gloves on.
Good sort of moisturizing therapy for them.
For callouses, I use the corn huskers lotion and a pumice stone on my hands
right before I get out of the shower. Your skin is soft, so a quick scrub
of the palms with the stone prior to exiting the bath keeps the callouses at
a minimum.
For scratches and boo boos from the garden, you just can't beat the bag balm
from the feed store!
It may sound like a lot of work, but it's actually VERY easy, and your hands
will never let on that you work as hard with them as you do.
