Rose of sharon is a shrub. Trim to shape and contain. It can become very
large. Flowering shrubs are usually better cut in the spring after they
flower, so that they have time to heal before the winter sets in. My sister
recommends using elmers glue to seal the ends of shrubs, roses that you want
to cut in the fall. Rose of sharon does flower late summer.
