'John Clayton' is one of the yellow-flowering cultivars of Lonicera
semperveriens. They bloom best in sun, but supposedly tolerate some shade.
I would leave the pruning until spring and then prune only dead or weak
growth. Since this was the first year of planting, I wouldn't worry to
much. Some plants don't do much the first year. Just remember:
The first year they sleep,
The second year they creep,
The third year they leap.
