Re: Colchicums

I've just received an order of Colchicums (I know it's a bit
late, but the nursery kept them in cold storage for us while
we were away). 11 of them are fine, but one of them has
sprouted it's flowers downwards so that if we were to put it
in the ground, the flower would be about four inches below
the roots. I'm not really sure what to do with it, apart
from putting it in the garden on its side, so that the roots
can grow out sideways and then downwards, and the same with
the flowers but sideways and upwards. Am I right in
thinking that they can just be left on the windowsill to
flower? If that is the case, do they need watering? And if
I can do this, do I put it in the ground immediately after
flowering?

(Actually, I'm very lucky to have these Colchicums to plant.
I did a joint order with a friend, my daughter brought the
bulbs home with her on Sunday and didn't tell me, my husband
looked at the box, said "What's this?" and assuming it to be
a cardboard box full of paper, threw it away!!! It was only
because I queried its non-arrival this morning, that I was
able to salvage it before the rubbish was collected.)

Thanks for your help.
