Ginny,
Pardon my ignorance, but if I wanted to go buy some of this lime, what
would I ask for?

No pardon needed! What you are looking for is calcium carbonate
(limestone), which is sold at garden centers in crushed form and usually
labeled 'agricultural lime'. It should be easy to find, and isn't expensive.
If you can find it, calcium magnesium carbonate (dolomitic limestone) has the
added benefit of magnesium.
