Hello Martha and all interested in bishops weed (snow on the Mt.)
aegopodium
I have one bed in which I keep a 6 to 8 inch border of bishops weed
behind which I usually plant canna and hosta--I stored my canna bulbs in
boxes of peat -which I placed in grocery bags and covered all the boxes
with burlap bags then placed in the hay loft of our metal barn--the doors
were not opened during the winter and yet the bulbs were ruined. This
was the winter of 98 (that was the first and last time I store bulbs
there) I didn't order new tubers in time so this past summer I put dwarf
shasta daisy stoksia hosta and a few others in that bed--I will go back
to the canna again this coming spring, even tho I grumble and fuss every
Sept/Oct when I dig and clean all the bulbs.(tubers)
but back to the bishops weed--yes, it does spread if left unattended, but
I find if I am diligent when I weed and clean up the bed in the
spring--removing ALL of the creep crawling roots and I can keep it
contained as a border. This bed is in FULL sunshine all day. Never gets
watered and is exposed to some chemicals. So it needs plants that can
take a lot of abuse. I use Preem and compost on all my beds, so weeding
is kept to a minimum of twice a summer. Again making sure to remove ALL
the roots.
