It is my experience that Begonia grandis will not grow in the sun at all.
Mine have filled in the entire shady portion of the bed they are in and have
stopped abruptly at the point where direct sun can reach. A little morning
sun is fine, but where there is more than that, the seedlings do not survive.
That is actually a handy feature. Mine is at the northeast corner of my
house and the sun does the work of keeping it in check for me. It moves to
the north until it hits a porch and moves to the east until it hits the sun.
In between it is glorious, especially this time of year.
