The very best on-line bulb discussion group I've been in is the email
list for members of the International Bulb Society (IBS)
<http://www.bulbsociety.org>. It's only drawback is that you have to
be a member of the IBS to be allowed onto the list. They also sponsor
a publicly accessible list on yahoogroups <BULBS@yahoogroups.com>,
but it isn't nearly as active nor does it have the breadth of
membership that the main IBS list has. They also run a separate image
list where people send photos of bulbs, from common to extremely
rare, that are blooming in their gardens. It is at
<IBS_Images@yahoogroups.com> which I think is also publicly
accessible.
Just like the medit-plant list, there are members from all over the
world including both hemispheres who actively participate on the main
list, and it offers what is called the BX (for Bulb eXchange), where
people from all over the world send in their extra bulbs, bulblets,
and perishable seed that are then distributed for basically the cost
of shipping and handling.
One reason I like the main list the best, is because it has many
members on it who live in California, South Africa, and Australia, so
there is a huge amount of information from people growing bulbs in
mediterranean areas.
Currently the main list is out of commission for another day or two
we've been told because apparently the main relay equipment for the
server it was hosted on was located too close to the former World
Trade Center.
