Re: good and bad news from my garden.

Nancy,
Your pond looks lovely. Congratulations! I agree that you need to soften the
hardscapes with some plantings. I am not really familiar with zone7, but you may
want to wait till next spring. There are water plants that can be used in the
rocks. Variegated parsley will creep up into them, also water variety forget me
knots. If you don't want that, sedum is another good choice as it doesn't need
much dirt. I fear that if you add dirt pockets, they will end up in the pond.
How about some grasses that will lean over the edges and soften it. I also have
another plant, unfortunately, having a senior moment here, American crest or
something like that. If you interested in the spring, will be glad to mail you
some cuttings. Any success with seeds? Have some water hibiscus (pink), which
is a much smaller flower than southern bell, but hardy here.
A word of caution, watch what types of plants you use close to the pond.
Some roots will travel to the water and poke a hole in the liner.
Concerning your other plants being stomped on- give them till next spring
and see what happens. Depends if they left "pond material" on the roots too
long.
Welcome to the wonderful world of water gardening :)
