Re: perennials in containers - experiences ?

It is time to start haunting the fall sales - I love looking for bargains!

Cheryl
Thanks to everyone for the great ideas ! I think I'll look for some things
as they go on sale this fall, tuck them in the ground for winter, and then
pot them up in the spring. Then next fall I'll decide how to over-winter
them for the next year - in protected pots, or tucked into the ground in the
veggie garden. We have a large deck that just cries out to be softened with
lots of potted plants, and this should broaden my options.

 Hello Beth,
We grow a lot of large pots around here each year for our own pleasure
and for display. My wife, JoAn, does most if not all of the pots around
here, although I am now playing with hypertufa troughs in the shade
garden.
One of her arrangements I like very well this year is medium size gold
foliage hosta with midnight claret heuchera and Cimicifuga 'Brunette'. We
will probably leave this one together come winter and shove it into
storage.
Most of the annual stuff gets dumped.
We have a corner where we take all the large container to and place
out
of the wind. We then make a wall around them with bales of straw. Leaves
are
stuffed in between the pots and then they are forgotten until spring.
Can't
remember loosing anything of importance over the years.
