Re: juniper problem?

2 - 4 lbs per sq ft..............how does this convert to inches deep? Also, I have never understood how you keep adding layers to existing plantings..............seems like eventually you smother the plants......

Add a *thick* layer of compost. :-)) Every! year. Not mushroom compost (too much salt) but regular compost at 2-4 pounds/square foot is what the old-timers recommended.

He says having just come in for lunch from starting to dig and renovate one of his own garden beds. There is no shortcut to great soil and great herbaceous perennial plants - you either do the digging in a short time or you allow Mother Nature to do it for you over a longer time. Either way, you get to add lots of organic matter.
