Doug, you will love the Hibiscus "Kopper King" but then the Japanese beetles did too. The foliage is a great color and the pink blooms just add icing to the cake. I have a hard time with the Hosta plantaginea since it always gets hit by a late spring freeze here in Tennessee. You may have a problem with it also but maybe it will keep its nose down until the freezes are gone up your way.
Nancy - interesting comment about the hosta. You're right though, in our zone 4 garden we seldom if ever see hosta damage due to late frosts. By the time the darn things poke their heads out of the ground summer is half over. :-) I'm looking forward to the hibiscus next year - its just a gallon plant now - and I will keep a watch for the beetles - thanks for the tip.
