Some of us do not have that problem with the hostas taking over. I
always give a generous space to the hostas and other plants when I am
planting and just look at seedlings or soil for a few years. But then
for no reason, the hostas start dying and declining. My August Moon row
is pitiful. I am going to dig them up and beef up the soil but at a
hosta meeting there was mention of Oak sickness. I am not too sure of
this diagnosis myself. Sure oaks can send out roots that take over but
a chemical as well? Anyway I am glad you all can grow hostas large and
beautiful. My Sum and Substance is 54 inches across with one leaf 18
inches but it is not here in this yard but up on the mountain side where
most of my flowers grow.
