Re: Propagating Brugmansia

Judy
My yellow ones were a gift cutting from my sister, someone gave her a cutting, and the pink I purchased off e-bay, therefore as far as I know they are just the regular brugs. I just went outside and measured my blooms and they measure 10 1/2 " long and 6" across. they are huge and beautiful, and smell heavenly at night. The blooms on mine tend to close up in the daytime and the pink ones don't last as long as the yellow.
I have mine in sun beginning about 9:00 in the morning and last until about 3:00 or 4:00 in the afternoon, but still there are days when the humidity is so bad they look like someone has poured hot water on them. As a rule I feed mine Ironite in the very beginning of the season and especially if it is a new plant and I do this 3 or 4 times during the season, otherwise I just use Miracle-Gro. I also like to use the Ironite on my other pot plants, and also I like using Fish Emulsion. I don't mean I like the smell of Fush Emilsion , but, that it's benificial to my plants.
Judy, what colors do you have? pink and yellow are the only colors I have. and if you want cuttings from my plants just say the word and I would be more than willing to share with you.

personally I have never had any luck with these plants in the ground. I grow them in "pots" and they do very well for me. I have 3 at this time that are over 8 ft tall "in pots" In the fall I always move them to my basement, take several cuttings and just put them in pots of soil and keep them damp. sometime around Feb. I can began to see green leaves start. I have a pretty good success rate on my cuttings. I always have bunches to share with friends. I have a pink one that has really out done itself this year. About 3 weeks ago I counted 26 blooms, and right now it has about that many. Donna in NE Mississippi
