Hi Gene. Tomahawk is almost straight north of Madison, but much closer to Upper Michigan than to Madison. I'm near Milwaukee and we do have some strange zones. I'm in zone 5 being nearer Lake Michigan, while Chris in Tomahawk is 3-4 because of being further north and closer to Lake Superior (chilly lake).

We've had a terrible drought here this year. We had rain last weekend, but we're still 10 inches below normal in precipitation. While Chris had snow cover last winter (although less than usual), we had virtually none to speak of. That's our major source of *drip irrigation* - melting snow. Add to that months without rain and it's pretty ugly here.

I'm lucky because I have both city water and a private well, so I can keep things watered pretty regularly. Our municipal water is enormously expensive (actually it's the sewer costs that are high, but it's all lumped on one bill) so most people don't bother to water.

I'm watching 40 year old trees wither and seemingly die in a very short time . . . .send us some rain!
