Northern Wisconsin, Zone 3 had our first hard frost, and only frost 2 nights
ago with 25 degrees. The forecast is for freezing temps for the next 10
days.

So - who has had a frost yet? Not here, but far northern New
Hampshire has according to the weatherman. During a nursery crawl, I
found a white American Burnet (sanguisorba ? alba), which now makes
up the new end of the "D" bed (once a semicircle, now a long, uneven
semi oval). I moved a few small daylilies in and a geranium -
Espresso and Walter Funke Achillea (found on same crawl). A few tulip
bulbs and a few hens and chicks and it looks like it has been there
for ever!
In the back, I've picked the spot for tiarellia Jeepers Creepers -
mislabelled as an annual and purchased for a song!
What is the general concensus on fall clean up - leave the leaves or
bare ground? Anything might be bird food or winter interest stays,
50% of the daylily foliage stays (more if it tender or very new to
the garden), other things cleaned up completely. Mulching is over
bare ground only - I'll work the push mower to get the leaves and
grass and sometimes raid the bags of leaves left by the road.
Well, house work calls!
