This year has been really bad for my Tricyrtis.  Almost all of the 'Tojen'
have languished and only have one or two decent stems, but are now 
yellowing.  Do they tend to need warmer weather than we're having?
Could it be some sort of cool-weather disease?

Certainly sounds as though they are not happy. We have had cool wet weather
on and off this year as well... no problem with any of my tricyrtis. I would
be inclined to suggest cutting them back and moving to a different location.
Kind of sounds like they are going dormant early in any case.
