changing taste and age

choices. In my addled old age I am appreciating
stronger color more.
Is the desire for stronger colors in the garden come with age...or
just me wandering around in my garden?

Gene,
as I get older, I find I want more structure - more things to look at in winter, even if it is only the outline of the shrubs and grasses. I also seem to crave contrast - variegation, different color leaves (which I think leads to my growing collection of hosta and huechera) and flower shape.

Strangely, at the same time, subtle flowers are more attractive than the ones that shout. I like being invited in to notice extra petals, gradual color shifts and twisting petals.
