I have 3 areas rather close to each other planted with Athyrium niponicum var. pictum. I'd guess I planted these 8 to 10 yrs ago. In the last couple of years they all seemed to be struggling a bit, but I guessed it might be because of the hotter-than-usual summers and competition from tree roots. The batch closest to the birch had gotten so it couldn't stand up anymore so I dug it up yesterday. Even though I'd thoroughly watered the area a few days earlier, it was bone dry.

Anyway, on to my question. I potted each limp, dessicated plant up in nice potting soil to overwinter for next year. Do you think these plants will rejuvinate or do you think they're too old and have played themselves out?
