My fine gardening happened to be sitting right next to my computer while I
was reading your post! I'm not positive, but that plant in the background
MAY be purple loosestrife, which loves wet conditions (its very thick next
to the pond on the magazine cover) The reason I'm not sure about this is
because the plant is pretty much banned in our area (pac. nw) because many
varieties can be extremely invasive and totally overtake natural wetlands.
If, instead what you have IS obedient plant you can tell if you move the
individial petals of the flowers around the stem, and they stay in that
place.. therefore the common name. (this plant too can also be invasive --
I'm going to have to go digging up most of mine soon.)
