There comes a time to recognize a publication of great standing. In
review of the subject bulletin, Alpine Garden Society (AGS) has provided
a excellent resource guide to assist anyone in becoming an alpine
gardener. What is an Alpine? This is a heated topic for some of us who
believe it is a plant which grows in the timberline and others who say
"If it grows in the mountains, its an alpine plant". For me...I
really don't care. All I want to do is understand the methods of
propagating alpines to introduce into my garden.
The bulletin covers all aspects in becoming an alpine gardener. Here is
the table of contents in the September Issue:
The Lure of Alpines
Beginning with Alpines
Choosing and Buying Alpine plants
Choosing your Compost
A Scree Garden
Raised Beds and Retaining Walls
Making Stone Troughs
Starting with an Alpine House
Starting with Cushions
Vegetative Propagation Made Easy
Alpines from Seed
Collecting and Saving Seed
The Problem of Shade
A Computerized Watering System
Plant Photography, an Introduction
Venturing Abroad
Rocks and Landscape
Safety in the Mountains
I strongly recommend this professional publication to everyone. It
provides detailed graphics on propagation and trough building with high
quality photos on plants. And guess what?...there is no advertisement,
unless you look at the last few pages.
