I have two types of Solidago and neither have I found to be invasive.
One is Solidago caesia, "Wreath Goldenrod", it is a favorite of mine. Wiry
stems bear clusters of yellow flowers along the leaf axils. Grows to about
3'. It is the second season in my garden and in flower now. I think it is
gorgeous and really would like to get some more.
The other Solidago I do not have a name for. In my very warm microclimate it
blooms in June and lasts for about a month. Never has grown much away from
the mother plant.
Right now, there is some "wild" goldenrod growing on our slope behind the
house. I never seem to get more than patches here and there. Some of the
other Solidago are:
Solidago canadensis-Canada Goldenrod
Solidago nemoralis-Grey Goldenrod
Solidago odorata-Sweet Goldenrod
Solidago rugosa-"Fireworks"
Solidago sempervirens-Seaside Goldenrod
All have yellow flowers but different growth habits. Love em!
