One thing that I have learned is that you don't want to mulch too soon. As
the weather begins to cool down, the plants develop the internal changes and
hardiness that will help them get through the cold months. If you mulch,
too soon, you cover them with a warm blanket that makes them feel like
summer is lasting longer than it really is. Then, when hit with really cold
weather, they will be shocked.
Best bet is to let them adapt to the chill, mulching only when the actual
COLD threatens. In my case, this means late October,
