Re: Hydrangeas and ADENIUMS

Hello all:

I raise Hydrangeas, both Nikko Blue and a Florist's Hydrangea which we got
in 1989 at my wife's aunt's funeral. They are outdoors in semi-shade area
and are easy to propagate. I like the "Florist's" Hydrangea better as it
gives bigger flower heads and is a truer blue. The are easy to propagate
by cuttings in water and repotted into Supersoil to grow through the winter
and to be set out in the Spring. They take about 2 years to really grow
into bushes and bloom well, but they are real knockouts, beaten out only by
ADENIUMS.

Of course, I acidify with aluminum sulfate in the spring.
I sometimes get a few small out-of-season blossoms as I am now.

I am in USDA zone 8 which is supposedly a min temp of 10F but it has been
colder with no problems.

Regards to all Hydrangeists[did I invent a new word or what?], Clark

I had a hydrangea in a pot fo about three years while I tried to decide
what
I wanted to do with it. I actually kept in in a cool greenhouse, but in a
cold and dark enough spot to let it go dormant. My suggestion would be:
leave it outside until the first frost, and then move it somewhere that it
will stay cool, but the roots won't freeze (maybe a garage or a shed?
Water
it just enough to keep the roots from drying out, then move it outside once
you're past hard freezes in the spring.

Good luck!
