Preen is a pre-emergent herbicide...  That means that it prevents seeds
from germinating, so you can't use it where you expect to plant seeds.
It's usually available at any hardware store/garden center; I bought
mine at Lowe's (much as I dislike them).

I just throw out handfuls of it until the soil has an even scattering --
the package has information about it.  A little bit goes a long way.

Need rain bad...  Haven't had any for a couple of months now, I think...
But the weather report claims that it's raining outside right now!  (must
be a parallel universe :)
