Betty-
This particular vine has been growing from the same "potatoe" for three
season - that maybe the reason for the larger foliage. The first season the
foliage was considerably smaller. I'm sure that if we should get a "real"
winter the "potatoe" probably would not survive.....but there are always
more. We have had very mild winters in '97/'98 and '98/'99. We are due a
winter this year.
This vine really doesn't grow up the tree all by itself---I have to help
direct it by sort of "hooking" it to the course bark of the oak. My neighbor
puts chicken wire around the bottom portion of her tree which helps the vine
go upward----By May you cannot even see the chicken wire. I should send you a
pic of hers around her tree----really pretty. I'll try to see a "bloom" this
evening and maybe that would help you too. Pam (murfsmomma) told me that she
may have the botanical name of the one I pictured. Maybe that will also help.
Take care and Happy Gardening
