Hello and welcome to the prairie list, Dan. In general, if you're
managing for forbs, now is too late to burn. In a year with a longer
colder winter, it might not be in your area (though it would be down
here in Missouri), but this year I'd have to say wait till next fall
or winter. Mowing in mid-summer, just as grasses are getting ready to
flower, also seems to favor forbs around here. I'm not sure if that's
true for the shorter growing season in Wisconsin. Anyone want to
pitch in on this point?
