I tried to send the below a couple of days ago, but, it didn't seem to
go through to this list. Sorry if this is a duplicate, but, I'm
trying one more time.
-----------------------------------
If you aren't subscribed to the Farm Bill List, you may miss the below
referenced web page about wetland protection (from Tony Dean -- you
know, the 'hook & bullet' show guy on TV). It makes some excellent
points that *all* conservationists should know. His opinions apply
equally well to the conservation of not only wetlands but also all
native habitat (prairie, woodland, forest, etc.) , even in a more
domesticated state like Iowa.
I don't hunt & I don't fish, but, I do acknowledge that hunters &
fishermen have been a major force behind much of the conservation of
habitat for all wildlife in the US (both game and non-game). Shouldn't
we all (hunters and non-hunters alike of all political parties) be
getting together to oppose the rising tide of rural and urban
development and "land improvement"? We can sort out our differing
management philosophies later, after we've saved something more of the
native ecosystems to be managed!
Please look at Dean's web page for his call to arms.
