Hi, this is Anita again. Thinking about switchgrass...
I'm getting the seed for free from Pheasants Forever. We just started a
chapter of the club in Frederick, MD. and since I have pheasant and am a
member, They have offered me the seed. I have no idea from where it comes,
save Pheasants Forever in the mid-west. Any help you can and do offer is
greatly appreciated.
I was gone from Thurs. till today on a Coverts Retreat (we are trained in
wildlife and forest management) and had a great time on the eastern shore of
Maryland; touring other co-operators land and seeing the habitats they
provide. Learned alot and now am back. One of my fellow Coverts
Co-operators tried to plant switch grass but had no success.
I collected my 3 children (10, 12 & 14) who were farmed out to different
families as my husband had a family matter in GA. Now it's back to the
grindstone.
I know what you mean about mono-cultures, but I'm thinking maybe if this
works, I'll get into different types of warm season grasses and harvest them
to make some money off my land. It would be nice to be able to do that and
it would be better to do it straight, one type of seed per plot. Just a
thought.
Enjoying this sharing of knowledge. Anita
