Time for another Sinnissippi Audubon Society native plant sale to support
prairie restoration in northern Illinois.
Orders are now being taken for this year's sale -- $50 for a kit of 36
prairie plants. Try finding prices and plants like these at a Big Box
store! These perennials grow well in northern Illinois, which is where they
evolved. (We even have plants for that dry, sunny area of your lawn where
nothing grows but despair Once established, prairie plants require little
maintenance while attracting a variety of butterflies and birds.
We're also selling individual plants in any quantity at $4 per 6-inch deep
container. This year's indie lineup includes nodding pink onion, jacob's
ladder, prairie petunia, royal catchfly, blue-eyed grass and golden
alexander.
Your purchase will help us restore a 30-acre prairie at Atwood Park in
Rockford. This sale also supports Audubon Adventures, an environmental
education program for children in grades 3-6.
You can get information on this year's sale and about how prairie plants
will grow in your yard by calling Tim Gruner, 633-1726. Or you can e-mail
him at Nimmlink@aol.com.
If you're not interested in the sale, but know a Rockford area gardener who
is, please forward this message. For more information on Sinnissippi
