Volunteers for pre-burn transects at Monument Hill State Park

I am looking for additional people to help with pre-burn vegetative
transects at Monument Hill State Park in La Grange, Texas. It is a
volunteer project of the Coastal Committee of the Native Prairies
Association of Texas. On April 24th (with May 1st as the rain
date), we will assist Texas Park & Wildlife Dept. in completing 2
transects in preparation for a future burn. It is within easy driving
distance if you live in the Houston or Austin areas or somewhere
between. We plan to start at 9 AM. Please contact me if you
would like to participate. My e-mail is elmerz@hal-pc.org and
telephone is 713-644-8228. This is a description of the area:

The Monument Hill State Historical Park in La Grange, Texas
combines a natural area with historic and architectural interests.
The broad meadow in the ravine below the Kreische Brewery built
in the early 1860's is a good place to observe the native grasses.
The dominant grass is little bluestem, with purple tridens and
dropseed also present. There is supposed to be an elusive stand
of big bluestem somewhere in the ravine (still waiting to be found).
Dale Martin, the superintendent of the park, is currently using
mowing to encourage healthy stands of little bluestem around the
brewery site. But along the nature trail area, you can see that
cedar is encroaching upon the stands of native grasses there. This
is the area ripe for a controlled burn.
