I just emailed JA personally saying the same stuff that you said.
I'm not packed. I'm not ready.
BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS
For those of us who are enthusiastic about native plants, there are two
newly published books that are a must for our libraries. Both are
written about plants that grow in Iowa and both offer a wide range of
information about each plant listed.
Wildflowers and Other Plants of Iowa Wetlands by Sylvan T. Runkel and
Dean M. Roosa, Iowa State University Press, 1999
and
An Illustrated Guide to Iowa Prairie Plants by Paul Christiansen and
Mark Muller, University of Iowa Press, 1999
Two other books of interest are:
Invading Weeds, A Growing Threat fo Wisconsins Biological Diversity by
Elizabeth J. Czarapata, self published, 1999
To order a copy of this booklet, contact:
Elizabeth J. Czarapata, Box 565, Muskego, WI 53150
Or E-mail: lee4betty@aol.com
This booklet is excellent. It is full of color identification
photographs as well as written descriptions of the plants. Ms Czarapata
also gives information on the mechanical and chemical control of these
nasty species. (oops, my bias is showing)
Invasive Plants, Changing the Landscape of America, Fact Book, Federal
Interagency Committ for the Management of Noxious and Exotic Weeds, 1998
This book gives a good overview of the invasive plants problem in the
United States.
OK, HELP. I'm leaving at 6am tomorrow and lots to do. Bill Norris asked
me to do a review of Christiansen's book but ...
I really was a bit ticked that he didn't make the dot maps current, that
he took the easy way out and said 'it gives a feel for the range, or
something like that.
Yet, he's a big name prairie guy.
So, if you would like to write a review INPS newsletter would love it.
Email Bill and tell him.
I really was impressed with Elizabeths book tho.
