In Australia there are several Acacia spp. that do this. Some of
these are invasive in coastal dune systems in Southern California. I
wonder if they're invading Chile, too. The two areas do share many of
the same weeds, thanks to their "Mediterranean" climates, and
somewhat similar geologies.
